After I found that Android devices could run a full Linux environment, I quickly delved into the possibilities and different versions of Linux available on ARM processors.

I was greatly impressed with Ubuntu 9.04 that NexusOneHacks.net had running. After much scouring, I couldn’t find the newest version of Ubuntu already available. With that, I decided to use the boot script from them and rebundle Ubuntu with the latest build available (I’m used to using Ubuntu 10.10 and Backtrack 4 on my laptop).

After getting Ubuntu 10.10 installed and running, the next step was to remove most of the bulky and unneeded programs for the task that I wanted to do. I always thought it would be neat to have a very mobile pen test device. I used to use an Asus EEE just for that, but how can you beat a small cellphone for mobility?

After all, Backtrack is based off of Ubuntu. I then decided to put this mobile OS to some use, as a mobile penetration testing platform. As a test of concept, a large amount of tools have been pulled off of the repositories. Most of these run in the terminal and as a result, run perfectly well on most cell phones.

This phone has a pretty hefty list for tools running off of a mobile phone. Smart phones are often seen as a security risk for those who carry them. Now, the smart phone can be used as a mobile penetration tester to help eliminate security threats.
